El Salvador becomes first Central American country to be certified malaria-free

Geneva, 25 February 2021 -- Today, the RBM Partnership to End Malaria welcomes the news that El Salvador has been officially certified malaria-free by the World Health Organization (WHO).

El Salvador is the first country in Central America to receive this accolade presented to countries which have maintained at least three consecutive years of indigenous zero malaria cases, and the third in the Americas region to be certified in recent years, following Paraguay in 2018 and Argentina in 2019.

The Draw The Line Against Malaria campaign is fronted by a team of changemakers coming together to inspire young people from across the African continent and the globe to call on their leaders at zeromalaria.org and push for political action to end malaria within a generation.

Life-saving malaria campaigns on track in the majority of malaria-affected countries despite COVID-19

Geneva, 1 October 2020 – New data confirms that over 90% of life-saving malaria intervention campaigns scheduled for this year are on track across Africa, Asia and the Americas, helping to protect millions from the disease and avoid a severe increase in malaria cases and deaths in the face of significant challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Countries that in recent years either reached or are on the verge of reaching zero malaria cases also are maintaining their focus on eliminating this preventable and treatable disease.

RBM Partnership Board strengthens malaria-affected countries’ voice with two new appointments

Geneva, 28 July 2020 – The RBM Partnership to End Malaria today announced two new members joining its Board:

  • Dr Elizabeth Chizema, Coordinator, End Malaria Council, Zambia
  • Dr Oluwafunmilola (Lola) Dare, President, Chestrad Global, Nigeria
