Next meeting: 5th Meeting of IRS IRM Priorities Work Stream
Insecticide resistance is seen as the major threat to the effective control of the mosquito vectors of malaria. There is growing evidence that insecticide resistance is leading to a reduction in the effectiveness of vector control, with a concurrent increased incidence of parasitemia. Currently, and for the foreseeable future, IRS will continue to play an important part in the control of mosquito vectors, and will have a key role in IRM programmes, especially in areas where pyrethroid resistance is potentially compromising control.
This work stream will spearhead the VCWG’s efforts to support the implementation of the GPIRM, and promote best practice IRS; both within the wider context of Integrated Vector Management (IVM).
