Egypt is certified malaria-free by WHO
20 October, 2024 - The World Health Organization (WHO) has certified Egypt as malaria-free, marking a significant public health milestone for a country with more than 100 million inhabitants. The achievement follows a nearly 100-year effort by the Egyptian government and people to end a disease that has been present in the country since ancient times.
Malaria to kill 300,000 more people if critical funding not received
26 September 2024 (New York) – Ahead of the Global Fund Replenishment next year, Heads of State and Government gathering at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) warned that funding for malaria must be increased to prevent the number of cases and deaths rising.
Their warning follows new modelling conducted by the Malaria Atlas Project, which reveals an additional 300,000 lives are in jeopardy.
