Football Fights Back: new F.C. launched to tackle deadly disease
25 April 2023: On World Malaria Day, football legends Luís Figo and Khalilou Fadiga have teamed up with the RBM Partnership to End Malaria to announce an exciting new initiative: the Zero Malaria F.C..
The new initiative will bring together a team of globally renowned footballers to increase malaria awareness, urge greater action against this deadly disease, and work with the RBM Partnership to advocate for the malaria response.
Francophone Consultation - on the occasion of World Malaria Day
Taking place on 27 April in Geneva, this high-level event hosted by RBM in partnership with WHO and the International Organization of the Francophonie aims to inform and raise awareness in French-speaking countries on progress to date in the field of the fight against malaria, as well as existing challenges to overcome. The RBM Partnership to End Malaria is coming together this World Malaria Day to highlight the need for urgent action and further investment to end malaria.
Since the turn of the millennium, global partnership and sustained investment have made a significant impact to the fight against malaria, preventing two billion malaria cases and saving 11.7 billion lives. Today, however, low coverage of existing tools, emerging biological threats and funding shortfalls are brewing a perfect storm for malaria, putting progress at risk.
Recognizing Threats to Progress in Malaria as Opportunities: A briefing hosted by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH).
The American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) is hosting its annual briefing honoring Alan J. Magill and his vision of an end of malaria, on Monday, April 24th from 12-3PM at Venable LLP in downtown Washington, DC. This year’s briefing—“Recognizing Threats to Progress in Malaria as Opportunities”—will convene key stakeholders in the malaria community to discuss how opportunities for innovation continue amid the challenging broader global health environment and how those threats and opportunities may impact future malaria control efforts.
World Malaria Day Workshop: Fighting Malaria in a Future World.
Imperial College London students and staff are invited to join this World Malaria Day workshop: Fighting Malaria in a Future World. This event will bring together people from across departments with interests in future malaria control and environmental change, considering impacts of our changing climate, land-use patterns, vector ecology and developments in control interventions. Ready to Beat Malaria Parliamentary Dinner
On the day of World Malaria Day 2023 “Ready to Beat Malaria”, MMV and Georg Kippels MdB are convening at the Bundestag a high-level group of experts, civil society, parliamentarians, and academic institutions and implementing partners to discuss the existing burden of malaria and the importance of continued research and development and funding in malaria to effectively eliminate the disease by 90% in 2030. The discussions will also feature successful public private partnerships models such as between MMV and German institutions.
