Cabo Verde certified malaria-free by WHO, marking a historic milestone in the fight against malaria

Friday 12th January 2024 – Today, Cabo Verde has been certified malaria free by The World Health Organization (WHO), marking a significant achievement in global health. 

Cabo Verde joins 42 additional countries and one territory worldwide that have already been awarded this certification by WHO. It is however, only the third country in the WHO African region to achieve malaria-free status in the last 50 years, joining Mauritius and Algeria, which were certified in 1973 and 2019 respectively. 

AFCON 2024: In Côte d’Ivoire, cultural icons team up to end malaria

January 11, 2024 - Abidjan: As AFCON kicks off in Côte D’Ivoire, political, sporting and cultural legends are gathering to highlight the ongoing fight against malaria in the country, throughout Africa and around the world. The RBM Partnership to End Malaria and Zero Malaria F.C. – an initiative co-captained by icons Luís Figo and Khalilou Fadiga – is engaging with players, fans and key stakeholders at the upcoming major tournament, to raise awareness of the disease and urge greater action.
