The 10th Annual Vector Control Working Group (VCWG) meeting, held from January 28-30, brought together over 200 participants for in-depth discussions on emerging technical and political issues, the 2015 work plan, and the evolving structure of the RBM Partnership.

Insecticide resistance took center stage, with Dr. Pedro Alonso, Director of the WHO Global Malaria Programme, warning that it poses “the greatest current threat to the future of malaria control and to the sustainability of the achievements of recent years.” With more than 50% of international malaria funding directed toward vector control, prevention efforts have played a key role in averting 4.3 million deaths since 2000.

Another major focus was the future shape of the RBM Partnership. The Task Force on Architecture and Governance, which includes VCWG members, is reviewing the Partnership’s structure, and VCWG was invited to provide input to ensure an effective and unified approach to malaria control.
