Sub Regional Coordinator for East and Southern Africa

Vonai is the Sub Regional Coordinator for East and Southern Africa. She is a Public Health Physician with over 20 years of experience in program management within the health sector. She has worked in disease control, Malaria, Maternal and Child Health and TB/HIV programs.  

She joined the fight against malaria as program manager for the National Malaria Control Program in Zimbabwe before becoming the RBM subregional network coordinator for the Southern African Region (SARN). She has over 15 years of experience in malaria programming, including her recent assignment as advisor of the National Malaria Control Program in South Sudan. 

She has experience in the health sector within the East and Southern African Region, having worked with ministries of Health in South Sudan, Eswatini, Lesotho, Botswana, and the SADC regional economic community. She has also worked as a government employee with NGOs and with UN Organisations, including WHO and UNICEF, to support program implementation within different and sometimes complex settings.

Vonai holds a Master's in Public Health from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from the University of Zimbabwe.  

 Outside of the office, Vonai enjoys gardening and teaching.
