Patience Akumu

Advocacy and Communication Manager

Patience is the Advocacy and Communication Manager at RBM Partnership to End Malaria. She is a lawyer, award-winning journalist, communications and advocacy professional with over 250 publications to her name. Before joining RBM, Patience led communications and advocacy for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Uganda where she linked humanitarian and development advocacy.  Patience also worked for USAID’s flagship resilience project where she led advocacy for better education, health, and nutrition as important vehicles for resilience both in times of conflict and peace. She worked with Oxfam as a communication, advocacy and research lead in Uganda and then at global level.

Her work has appeared in some of the most reputable publications in the world, including The Guardian, Times London, Africa in Fact and New Internationalist. For nearly 15 years, Patience has dedicated her career to influencing policies so that they work for the most marginalised. When she is not telling stories that influence decision-makers and change lives, she loves reading poetry and spending time with her two children, who she hopes will grow up in a healthier, more inclusive and just world. She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Journalism and Communication, a Bachelor’s Degree in Law, and is a qualified advocate of the High Court of Uganda and all other subordinate courts.
