The recent stalling of global progress on malaria has been further compounded by COVID-19. A modelling analysis from WHO and partners found that the number of malaria deaths in sub-Saharan Africa could double this year alone if there are severe disruptions in access to insecticide-treated nets and antimalarial medicines due to the pandemic. These projections reinforce the critical importance of sustaining efforts to prevent, detect and treat malaria.

Two webinars on consecutive days (3-4 September 2020) – held by WHO in collaboration with the RBM Partnership to End Malaria – will take stock of the current situation, including successes, key challenges and lessons learned. On day 1, we will hear from programme managers and experts at country level about the incredible work that has been done to maintain critical malaria services. The shared insight from countries will form the basis of discussions on day 2 with national and global health leaders.
