Fighting malaria through innovation and access

Time: 14:00 CET

Artemisinin-based combination therapies remain a key tool in the fight against malaria. Yet we are witnessing an emerging resistance to artemisinin in South East Asia and now in some African countries.

This emerging threat could jeopardize the progress made so far in malaria control and demands urgent action to introduce new tools, including next-generation non-artemisinin-based medicines to reduce the impact of resistance.

Learning from COVID-19, how can we act swiftly against the threat and ensure life-saving innovations reach patients in Africa as quickly as possible? And what is the role of youth in helping remove barriers at community level?

Three leading African malaria experts: Christine Manyando of the Tropical Diseases Research Centre (Zambia), Ghyslain Mombo-Ngoma of CERMEL (Gabon) and BNITM/UKE (Germany), and Odinaka Kingsley Obeta of the Jos University Teaching Hospital (Nigeria), will debate these issues, and explore solutions, at our upcoming event on Fighting innovation through innovation and access. The discussion will be moderated by Nekoye Otsyula of Novartis. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions to the speakers and get answers during the live Q&A.
