The inaugural meeting of the RBM Partnership Working Group on Insecticide-Treated Netting Materials (ITNs) took place on September 8-9, 2003, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. The group gathered to finalize its Terms of Reference, define key deliverables for the next two years, and develop a 12-month work plan and budget.
Dr. Don de Savigny chaired the meeting, with Dr. Kabir Cham as co-chair. Dr. Fatoumata Nafo-Traoré, Director of the RBM Partnership Secretariat, opened the session, followed by Dr. Thomas Teuscher, who outlined the role of RBM Working Groups in the new RBM structure. Dr. de Savigny reviewed the ITN WG’s progress and milestones, while John Miller presented the latest ITN data from the RBM Monitoring & Evaluation Team. Participants also shared recent updates in the field.
The working group reviewed its Terms of Reference, membership, and secretariat location before forming four subgroups to develop a 12-month work plan and budget for key focus areas:
- Strategic and tactical frameworks
- Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs), standards, and monitoring
- Indicators and methods for ITN Monitoring & Evaluation
- Enabling environments and best practices
