Saving Lives Through Malaria Control: Counting Down to the Millennium Development Goals(PDF), published by Roll Back Malaria, reveals that an estimated three-quarters of a million lives have been saved from malaria, most within the last five years. This year alone, an average of 485 children a day have been saved from this lethal disease.

The report also comes with a stark warning — failure to continue funding malaria activities has the potential to undermine previous efforts and may cost the lives of an additional half a million children. Let’s hope our elected leaders, here in the United States and globally, take notice of the findings in this report. By working together, our investments are saving lives and ending funding will only spell tragedy. Our leaders are needed now more than ever.
